Westcott 43″ collapsible umbrella flash kit with black cover demo and review

In this video, I do a demonstration and review of the Wescott 43″ collapsible umbrella flash kit with black cover. This is a great starter kit for both photography and videography which comes with a light stand, a swivel head, and an umbrella. The umbrella is collapsible, which means it can go from 43″ down to about 1/3 that size for easy storage and carrying. The black cover gives you the option of going from a shoot-through umbrella to a reflective umbrella in a minute or two, making this a very cheap yet versatile kit.

Thank you everyone for making the Florenceville-Bristol Haunted Trail 2013 a great success.

A special thanks to the Northern Lights Dancers for their great performances.

In this video, I do a VC and AF noise test for the Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC f/2.8 lens. I wanted to ensure that the Autofocus and Vibration Control noise of this lens would not be too distracting in a quiet environment, and I think it did quite well.

The AF test was done on a low-contrast subject with my T2i camera, which uses older Autofocus mechanisms, but it still did quite well. From using this lens for a couple of months already, I’d say it is a good focuser.

Adobe SpeedGrade CC 7.1 New and Improved Workflow with October 2013 update

In this video, I show the new and improved workflow for Adobe SpeedGrade which now allows you to very quickly color grade your projects to improve the colours.

Ever since SpeedGrade came out, I always considered it as a great tool for the future. It has always been a very powerful colour grading tool, but you had to convert your video files which would take forever on my computer. I tried converting a 2 minute video in the beginning, and it gave me an 8 hour estimate, so I just clicked cancelled.

Thankfully Adobe fixed that, and you can now natively open Adobe Premiere Pro timelines right into Adobe SpeedGrade, and skip the conversion. It now takes a few seconds to open a timeline in SpeedGrade, and about 2 seconds to save the results once you’re done. After that, you’re all set to open Adobe Premiere and compose the output of your video.

This gives you quick and easy access to a very powerful color correction tool, and is included in the Adobe Creative Cloud membership.

Tamron SP 24-70 Di VC f/2.8 USM Unboxing

In this video, I do an unboxing of the Tamron SP 24-70 Di VC f/2.8 lens. My initial thoughts on this lens is I absolutely love it. It’s sharp, has a nice aperture, and has vibration control, which is great for both photos and videos.

At half the price of a Canon 24-70mm II, I feel this is a great deal.

I will be posting more videos on this lens as I do more tests for VC, autofocus, image quality, etc, and a final review at the end, but so far I have to say I’m really loving this lens.

The Smart Cube turns your DSLR Camera into a Smart Phone

Aputure Amaran AL-528S Demo and Review

In this video, I do a review of the newest addition to my lighting kit: the Aputure Amaran AL-528S LED video light. Being the spotlight version, it offers quite a large amount of light which could be very useful for both photography and videography.

It can be powered through an AC power supply, or using two Sony batteries, and if you plug it in while you have the batteries inside, it also acts as a battery charger.

It also comes with a diffuser panel which does a pretty good job, and an orange gel to match tungsten lighting.

The umbrella adapter that comes with it is very practical, allowing you to pivot the video light, and attach an umbrella if you have one.

In this video, I do a demo of the Aputure Amaran AL-528S LED video light. This video is lit up completey by 1 AL-528S located about 1m (3 feet) away from me, with no modifiers except for the diffuser panel that comes with it. It allowed me to film at 1/60sec f/4.5 ISO 100, which is quite nice, and I like the way the colours are rendered with it.
