Canon S90 vs iPhone 4S vs Canon T2i Video Test

This video, updated on YouTube on October 16, 2011, serves as a comparison between the Canon S90 point & shoot camera, the iPhone 4S smart phone, and the Canon T2i DSLR camera.  It is rather impressive how well the iPhone 4S does compared to the Canon T2i.  With proper color correction and proper lighting, you can definitely take great videos from this smart phone.  You can also see how far along the iPhone has come when you compare it to the Canon S90 point & shoot, which was Canon’s most advanced point & shoot at the time.

Description from YouTube:

This is a comparison of the Canon S90, the iPhone 4S, and the Canon T2i. Note that the S90 captures in 480p, which explains why it’s pretty nice at 480p, but fails at full screen 1080p.

iPhone 4S Video Test 720p

This review was done on October 14, 2011 for the iPhone 4S.  The image quality is quite impressive for having been captured from a phone.  From now on, you can expect most major smart phones to give point & shoot cameras a run for their money.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS image stabilization test

This is a video I did back on May 25th, 2011, showing the effectiveness of the Image Stabilization (IS) of the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.  For this I used the Canon EOS Rebel T2i in the 480p crop-mode, which gives a magnification of about 7x and really shows any instability in the video.  This is a handheld shot.

Description from YouTube:

Stabilization test using Canon EOS Rebel T2i in 480p 60fps crop-mode which basically uses the centre 640*480 pixels of the sensor, giving a magnification of about 7x.

The lens used is the basic kit lens that comes with it, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS.

The camera is handheld, and I start the video with Image Stabilizer (IS) off, then I turn it on.

I hope this is useful in showing the usefulness of having an IS lens for doing video.
